80% recovery boiler installation works completed at Kaliningrad HPP-2

Kaliningrad Installation Division of SZEM JSC is installing mechanical equipment at PGU-450 combined cycle unit No. 2 of Kaliningrad HPP-2, including two П-96 recovery boiler assemblies with a total weight of about 4500 tons.  Some 70 specialists of the division are engaged in the project.  

For the five months of 2009 works on boiler No. 1 within the scope of the second startup complex are 80% complete, including the following operations:

  • framing and casing installed;
  • heating surfaces installed;
  • HP and LP drums, a diffusor and a confusor installed;
  • ladders and maintenance platforms installed.

Currently at the site auxiliaries and pipelines of boiler No. 1 are being mounted, as well as a gas flue from the stack.  Since November, 2009, erection of boiler No. 2 framing metalwork has been underway.  

In the framework of the project,  Kaliningrad Installation Division of SZEM JSC  has also manufactured some 690 tons of metalware of recovery boilers No. 1 and No. 2:

    • casing shields;
    • platforms and ladders;
    • a diffusor with supporting structures;
    • a confusor with supporting structures;
    • a gas flue from the stack;
    • a boiler shed.

The customer of Unit 2 of Kaliningrad HPP-2 project is 'Inter RAO UES' PSC, of which  Kaliningrad HPP-2 is an affiliate. The project investor is Mezhregionenergostroy PSC. The general contractor is a consortium composed of VO Tekhnopromexport PSC and Atomstroyexport JSC (ZAO ASE).

The project was launched in July, 2008. The unit is planned to go on stream in November, 2010. A new 450 MW power capacity is expected to minimize the risk of energy shortage and build up the reliability of power supply in the far western Russian region, while strengthening the power security of the country.
