Construction of a boiler house (MTK) with fuel preparation and supply facilities in the project for Modernization of Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill JSC (construction of a multi-fuel boiler with a capacity of 120 tonnes of steam per hour is the III stage of the project for Modernization of Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill JSC)
Construction and installation work on the boiler house, as well as construction and installation work on interdepartmental technological communications and external networks within the framework of the project for Modernization of Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill JSC, is carried out by Kemon-Engineering LLC, that is part of Trest SZEM CJSC.
Scope of work on the project: performance of a set of works, including general construction works, installation of the main and auxiliary equipment of the MTK-11 Hybex 120-40 multi-fuel boiler with a capacity of 120 tonnes of steam per hour, engineering systems of the boiler house building, power supply systems, instrumentation, as well as construction and installation work on interdepartmental technological communications and external networks.

Upon completion of the construction of the new paper-making machine, within the third stage of modernization of the Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill, the Segezha Group (part of Sistema Joint-Stock Financial Corporation) will continue to update the production capacities of its underlying asset in Karelia. In 2018, the Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill scheduled the commissioning of a modern biomass-based boiler plant for the production of steam for technological processes – a multi-fuel boiler (MTK-11 Hybex 120-40) with a capacity of 120 tonnes of steam per hour with fuel preparation and supply facilities.
The multi-fuel boiler manufactured by the Finnish company Valmet will allow the mill to use wood waste and waste water mud as fuel, thereby reducing emissions to the atmosphere. The MTK-11 equipment meets the requirements of the best available technologies.
The technology of equipment operation provides for the use of fuel consisting of bark waste with a humidity of 58% and previously dehydrated sludge deposits with a maximum humidity of up to 80%. Burning sludge deposits and industrial waste (bark, sawdust) will lead to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere. The installation of dust separation equipment, an electrostatic precipitator with a cleaning efficiency of 99.7%, is also provided. Mazut (fuel oil) will be used only in the start-up mode of the boiler, and in general its use will be reduced by 31,760 tonnes per year.
Significance of the project.
Bark and sawdust produced in the production of wood chips will be disposed directly at the pulp and paper mill. This will increase the produce-ability, reduce production costs of products, and in the long run be more competitive in the global market. The new biomass-based boiler plant will not only significantly reduce energy costs, but also bring production to a new environmental level.
After the implementation of the investment project, the total power capacity of the Segezha Pulp and Paper Mill will be 400 tonnes of steam per hour and will be sufficient to increase the production of bag paper by 110 thousand tonnes per year.
